I grew up in Sydney with a keen interest in both science and art. I followed the science path and graduated from the University of Sydney in 1982, with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science, Hons 1. I worked as a small animal vet from 1983 to 2000. My husband and I have four children. Once the younger ones were finishing school, I decided to combine my interest in science and art and in 2008 started botanical art classes at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Sydney. Initially I used watercolours, the traditional medium for botanic art. I tended to draw with the paint rather than let it flow. I then began experimenting with coloured pencils and found they suited my personality better, as I could be more in control. I found my niche and have been learning and exhibiting ever since.
