Polychromos, Pablos & Panpastels on Pastelmat

Despite going on from school to study art & then going on to graduate in Fashion Design in 1992 I had fallen out of love with my art & thanks to some tutors, my confidence had also long since disappeared. Many years of recurring depression & then a counsellor told me to get back in touch with my creative. In August 2012 I purchased my first set of coloured pencils & have never looked back. I pushed myself outside of my comfort zone entering the CPM monthly challenges which I won 2 of & by Christmas 2012 I was taking on commissions. I gave up my well-paid job in Jan 2013 to try full time as an artist. The first few years I worked hard to develop my skills & pushed myself to create as much as possible, both commission work & doing my own drawings. I had my first solo exhibition in 2014 & was very fortunate to have my work published in numerous magazines.

I built a large following on social media & despite the awards & successes I felt there was still something missing. My followers asked me for more information about my methods, so I created my first tutorial in 2016. I was astounded at how well it sold. I followed this up with a couple more & this then led on to people wanting me to teach more formally. In Feb 2017 I held my first workshops. I was astounded that it sold out in just under 2 hours! Despite a lot of nerves, the workshops proved to be the missing piece of the jigsaw. Helping others to build their own confidence & to embrace their own creative was a bigger reward thank any sale or award to date. Within weeks I was invited to teach workshops across America by Ann Kullberg. So, I continued to create tutorials & teach my own workshops as well as incorporate this whole new venture. This still was not enough for those that could not make the workshops so in July 2017 I set up on Patreon. I had to change my whole way of working & it has taken many months to get it right.  I create in depth video & written tutorials for my students every month & I now have almost 230 patrons. The income allows me to focus more on the teaching side. I have been invited to join the teaching teams of renowned art educators such as Chapel Cottage & the SAA. I work closely with Faber Castell & strive to take things forward.

I am also on the Executive board of the UKCPS where I work hard to create new ideas & help lift the society. At present not only am I pushing to take my own art to the next level but also that of my students by working closely with the Arts Council of England who I hope to approve my application for a grant to allow more collaborations with other artists, create more workshop opportunities for other artists & also put coloured pencil as a medium up there alongside all of the other mediums.
