My artistic style can be described as "Whimsical Realism" in the "Naive Art" genre. It could be defined as realism with a creative license or equally, whimsical with a touch of realism. My unique style has been described my many as "happy and uplifting" that "brings back fond childhood memories and smiles."
While primarily a colored pencil artist, I also use additional mediums and techniques that create a wonderful painterly effect. In addition to traditional portraits, I create fun, whimsical illustrations. In 2015, I created a series of "Sassy Selfies". These designs are whimsical portraits inspired by friend and client photographs. These are very popular paintings and a fun alternative to a traditional portrait. I have recently been creating fun and fanciful still life pieces that are outside of the box and full of creativity.
I was first bitten by the "art bug: in high school and went on to study fashion illustration at Parsons School of Design in New York City, and then graphic design and illustration in Denver at The Colorado Institute of Art. After a break raising my family, I discovered colored pencils in 2004 and began life as a commissioned portrait artist.
I love creating with colored pencil and have a huge desire to promote colored pencils as a fine art media. I have had success in several local and regional art festivals and fairs. I am an active member of the Colored Pencil Society of America (CPSA) and am on the Exhibition Committee of our local CPSA chapter. I also fill in as the substitute secretary and take and type the minutes for our chapter meetings and newsletters. I am also the creator and administrator of "The Creative Color Place", a very popular Facebook art community with over 4,300 members.
