Karen James is a full-time artist who resides in Warwick, Rhode Island, United States. Her area of focus is depicting botanical and avian subjects in colored pencil and in graphite. She allows her subject matter to determine her use of color, between bright bold hues and subtle shades.


  • She trained under the tutelage of her Father, Norman, who was formally educated at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), as well as taking courses there herself. She has won an award locally for her graphite work.

  • Her work has been included in Ann Kullberg’s on-line video showcases on numerous occasions.

  • Recently, her art has been included as part of Grafix Plastic Arts/Drafting Film promotional material and as part of their packaging material.

  • Several of her pieces have been sold to local collectors.

  • Karen is an active member and Committee Member of the Colored Pencil Community of the Australasia Inc (CPCAU), an active member of the Colored Pencil Society of America (CPSA), and an Artist Member of the Warwick Center for the Arts.
