Jennifer is an Australian based self- taught colour pencil artist, relying on personal experiments, YouTube and social media for her art education. She has been drawing seriously for 11 years and known for her people portraits that have a strong emphasis on emotion, as well as her garden landscapes. She aims, in her drawings, to evoke the emotions that were felt at that moment, by increasing warmth of colour, strength of colour or the addition of background that may be abstract or out of focus. She gives other viewers a little bit of movement to imagine, allowing them to adapt the piece to their own imaginings. Working on Clairefontaine Pastelmat for most of her work, allows Jennifer to use lots of layers. She doesn’t think the work is finished unless there are numerous layers put down with blender, even if it makes no difference to the result for another observer. The depth reflects how she feels people are built emotionally. Pastelmat is also difficult to erase on, and this again reflects her take on emotional layers being hard to eliminate. Process is just as important as the result for Jennifer. Jennifer is presently working towards a potential gallery showing of 36 pieces. 18 will be in a series called ‘Heart and Soul’ featuring a selection of people portraits and 18 pieces will be a series called ‘In the Garden’, a selection of scenic art from her backyard garden.
