A former lithographer living in Toronto, Canada, I switched from printmaking to drawing with coloured pencil about 19 years ago. I love this medium for its wonderful capabilities in capturing subtle nuances, lustrous build-up of colour, and its liberating sense of spontaneity. I am particularly enamoured with using drafting film as a drawing surface for my coloured pencils, it is particularly suited for achieving smooth gradations as well as using an eraser as a drawing tool. I am always on the lookout for interesting faces to draw, and try to capture candid, un-posed reference shots with my camera without the subject being aware; luckily, with the advent of cell phones with high quality cameras, this is becoming easier. Portraiture is my favourite genre; seeing faces ‘come alive’ on my drawing board never ceases to be a thrill, particularly when I am able to capture a myriad of complex, inner thoughts and moods, as evident in the expressions on their faces. Most of my drawings are compilations of one or more reference photos.

I have had my coloured pencil drawings accepted into the Colored Pencil Society of America International exhibitions 8 times (out of 10 times entered), between 2002 and 2019; 2 times in The Society of Canadian Artists International Exhibitions, 2018 and 2019; and 1 time in the International show of the Pencil Art Society, 2016.
